正直に言うと[shoujiki ni iu to]: to be honest

It is a phrase and it means "to be honest". It is used before you say what you really think or feel.
"ぶっちゃけ" is a spoken word and it is very often used in daily conversation.

I think that my Japanese is getting better so I asked a stranger about how to get to the Tokyo station. She was very kind, but to be honest, I didn't understand exactly. I have to try harder.
日本語が上手くなってきた気がするから、知らない人に東京駅への行き方を聞いてみた。彼女はとても親切だったが、正直に言うと、完全には分からなかった。もっと勉強しなきゃ。
Ken and Leo are working together and talking about the coming party.

  • Ken : Do you know what time the party will start?
    パーティーは何時に始まるか、知っている?
  • Leo : Yes, it'll start in 2 hours. I'm not going to lie, I don't want to go there. I'd like to rest at home instead.
    うん、二時間後に始まるよ。ぶっちゃけ、行きたくない。むしろ、家でゆっくりしたい。
  • Ken : We've been working overtime everyday. We should go home early after we drop by.
    最近、毎日残業しているもんね。ちょっと顔を出して、早めに帰ろう。
Meg is talking to Amy about her boyfriend.

  • Meg : Do you want to come to my place on Sunday? I am thinking of baking a cake.
    日曜、家に来ない?ケーキを焼こうかな。
  • Amy : Sounds nice. Weren't you supposed to go out with Ken?
    いいね。ケンとデートしないの?
  • Meg : To tell you the truth,he is really getting on my nerves lately . He plays video games all day even when he is in my room.
    正直に言うと、最近彼に頭にきているの。ずっとビデオゲームやっているの。私の部屋にいる時でさえ。
